Men are less likely than women to achieve a
healthy diet.
Diet is linked to a variety of health problems,
including coronary heart disease, stroke, some
cancers, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, dental
caries and some bowel diseases.
There is increasing evidence that fresh fruit
and vegetable consumption offers protection
against cancer at many sites. Milk and tofu
are excellent sources of calcium and some vitamins
that help prevent osteoporosis.
A balanced diet that is low in salts, sweets and fats, particularly saturated fats, moderate in meat, and comprising of plenty of grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, is the cornerstone of good health. |
