Sperm Count is Associated with Lifestyle?

The newspaper reported recently on findings of a survey conducted by a fertility centre in England.  Sperm samples from 7,500 men were collected and analyzed between 1989 and 2002.  It was found that the average sperm count had fallen by 29% during this period.

The research investigator reported that further research would be necessary to explain the fall in sperm count.  However, he believed that such observation might be related to smoking, alcohol drinking, obesity and certain chemicals.

Although it is uncertain whether such fall in sperm count will affect fertility, and further research is necessary to find out the reasons that lead to the fall in sperm count, the message from this survey is that the health effect of certain lifestyle may far exceed our current understanding.  So let us adopt a healthy lifestyle now!
