Protect yourself, take good care of your sexual partner.  Men, you can do it!

Statistics on HIV/AIDS for the first quarter of 2004 released by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) indicated that the number of persons infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Hong Kong is on the rise.  There were more males than females among the HIV infected persons, and their main route of transmission was sexual contact (including heterosexual and homosexual contacts).

Hey guys, you probably know that the routes of transmission of HIV include sexual contact with an infected person (including vaginal sex, oral sex and anal sex), blood contact with an infected person (such as needle-sharing for injection), and from infected mother to infant (during pregnancy, delivery or breastfeeding).  As it is impossible to tell whether a person is infected with HIV from his/her appearance, to reduce your risk of getting infected by HIV, you have to adopt safer sex behaviour such as having sex with only one partner who is not infected and who is having sex with you only, using condom properly, and do not share needles for injection.

For more information on safer sex and prevention of HIV infection, please visit the "Safer Sex" section of this website and the AIDS Hotline website of the Red Ribbon Centre of DH: http://www.27802211.com/ (available in Chinese only).

Latest quarterly statistics on HIV infection and AIDS is available from the following link to the CHP website: <http://www.chp.gov.hk/voluntaryreport.asp?lang=en&id=130&pid=26&ppid=10> .
