Prevention of Osteoporosis
Most people may think that osteoporosis is a disease exclusively for women. However, the fact is that men may also suffer from this disease and in the past 10 years, osteoporosis in men increased by two folds.
A recent survey conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong showed that among men aged 65 and above, 40% of them had low bone mass density, with another 10% suffered osteoporosis. It is estimated that about 180,000 men have these health problems.
As osteoporosis is often regarded as a disease of the elderly, you may think you are still too young to care about it. However, prevention is always better than cure. You can decrease the risk of getting it by adopting a healthy lifestyle when you are young: - Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D through a well-balanced die - Engage in an active lifestyle and do regular exercise - Quit smoking - Reduce or avoid alcohol intake.
