Garlic and Honey for Erectile Dysfunction: Do They Really Work?

It’s no secret eating garlic produces health benefits but fewer people realize consuming garlic can improve your sexual performance. There are many natural remedies and homeopathic remedies that have been used for hundreds of years to help overcome many health issues. But do herbal remedies work for sexual dysfunction? Many have found natural cures like raw garlic supplements help them overcome erectile dysfunction (ED). And still others believe that combining garlic with honey makes this natural cure even more potent. So, is it true?Do garlic and honey really work for reducing instances of erectile dysfunction?

Let’s take a look at the evidence.

You Aren’t Alone

First, it’s important to understand just how common ED is. Millions of men experience erectile dysfunction every year in both short and long-term bouts, and the problem gets worse as they age. Many deny a problem, but the fact is, if you’ve suffered from ED, you aren’t alone.

Erectile dysfunction can be both mental and physical or a combination of both. Stress is a major indicator of how likely a man is to experience a problem but often the problem does go beyond “what’s in his head.” There are concrete physical causes of ED.

One of the primary physical causes of ED is linked to heart health. In many cases,

ED is an indicator of a problem with the health of the arteries and is a precursor for serious heart health issues. If you experience ED, it’s important to rule out potential heart health problems. It can also help to approach ED as an indicator of heart health and if you approach both problems with an attitude of improving your cardiovascular health, you’ll kill two birds with one stone, as they say.

Garlic and Heart Health

And this brings us to garlic. That link between ED and heart health is linked to garlic because garlic is so good for cardiovascular health.

Garlic contains allicin, which is known to improve blood flow. Adding garlic to your diet, either in supplement form or increasing your food consumption of it, and aids blood flow, which reduces your risk of a heart attack or a stroke while also reducing the odds you’ll struggle with erectile dysfunction.

There is also some evidence that increasing garlic consumption also affects your hormones. Some people believe they experience a boost in testosterone when they add garlic to their diets because their sex drive increases and they notice physical changes in their testicles and penis.

In addition to helping blood flow by clearing out clogged arteries, garlic is also known to reduce blood pressure. As a matter of fact, blood pressure is one of the main reasons people turn to garlic and then many of them find the boost in garlic improves their sex lives!

There is also evidence garlic increases something called glutathione peroxidase, which is an enzyme that protects against oxidative stress. The healthier your blood the healthier your sexual performance.

Garlic Supplements vs. Food

Raw garlic is also known to be antifungal and antibacterial so it reduces the growth of candida in the body. When candida (yeast) growth gets out of hand, it can affect everything about your health and just make you feel depleted and like “yucky.” As you reduce candida growth in your body through this natural remedy, you’ll feel better overall and enjoy better sexual performance.

Linked to candida and yeast growth is garlic’s ability to reduce blood sugar. One study showed garlic had a significant positive effect on blood sugar, especially when consumed in its raw form. There’s no denying it, garlic is one of the healthiest foods in the world.

Garlic Supplements vs. Food

There are mixed reports on the best way to consume more garlic when it comes to improving your erection.

Some people believe supplements as a natural remedy are always the way to go because it gives you a concentrated dose of whatever you’re after without requiring you to eat more or consume more calories. There are plenty of great garlic supplements out there and we’ve listed a few of our favorites below.

You can also increase garlic consumption the old-fashioned wayby simply eating more garlic.

Adding garlic to food adds more to your diet but most people find it’s not enough to get the results you want without damaging the taste of food.

You’re better off eating fresh, crushed garlic on its own or mixed into another substance. Some people love it with a spoonful of yogurt, but you can also mix it into a spoonful of blended vegetables or fruits, or mixed with honey.

Honey and Erectile Dysfunction

Another benefit of using honey as a conduit for increasing garlic consumption is the fact that honey, on its own, also has sexual health benefits. One study showed that it reduced the risk for ED in men who smoke cigarettes—a habit that puts you at risk for erectile dysfunction because of how it damages your overall health.

The study fed male rats honey and exposed them to cigarette smoke. Researchers found the rats exposed to smoke and not given honey had less sex with ejaculation than those that were not exposed to smoke or that were exposed to smoke and then given honey. They concluded honey had a protective effect for the smoke-exposed rats that allowed them to have healthier sex lives.

Researchers do not yet understand why honey works in this way but speculate it could be because honey increases testosterone and/or because honey contains antioxidants and improves overall health.

There is also evidence that honey affected the sperm of the rats exposed to smoke. Those rats exposed to smoke and given honey produced healthier baby rats and researchers think that’s because the honey reduced the sperm damage caused by the smoke exposure.

Garlic and Honey Home Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction

Mix one cup of milk with one teaspoon of honey. Drink it every morning for a few months. This shouldn’t be difficult because it tastes better than most home remedies! Most people notice an increase in potency and an energizing of their sexual organs after a few weeks of daily intake of the beverage.

If you aren’t worried about taste—or smelling of garlic—you can mix two or three crushed garlic cloves into the milk and honey blend. It makes it easier to wash down the garlic than taking it straight. If you’ve opted to take garlic tablets you can swallow them using the milk and honey blend.
